Its time that the government gives a big push in the transition to full de-carbonisation of all parts of society and the economy. Up till now, the government used grants schemes, which created a limited opportunity to the people, created a bureaucratic system and a slow tax return. My suggestion is to provide a proper zero tax on all products which help reduce energy use and that help in the energy conservation. Products such as high quality insulation products (PIR and XPS), Solar panels, and heat pumps. The current REWS schemes that has been running for years, is a joke in tackling household energy losses. Having just uPVC windows and/or just insulating the roofs is not enough. Heat transmits from all sized, roofs, walls and floors.
Furthermore, the government should enforce the Energy Performance Certificate, whereby capping the household selling prices, based on such certification. If needs be, introduce a tax on homes which have a low energy performance, and can only be refunded once the household has been retrofitted up to standard.
