Il-Partit Nazzjonalista jappoġġja s-sejħa tal-Kamra għan-Negozji żgħar u Medji biex jitkompla jitnaqqas il-perjodu ta’ kwarantina għal ħamest ijiem, kemm minħabba li l-varjant tal-Omicron huwa aktar dgħajjef kif ukoll minħabba l-għexieren ta’ eluf ta’ nies li jinsabu fi kwarantina.

Is-sitwazzjoni attwali għandha impatt tremend fuq l-operat tal-pajjiż u l-ekonomija, minkejja li l-gvern jidher li qed jimminimizza l-kwistjoni.

Il-Partit Nazzjonalista jappella wkoll biex ikun hemm sistema xierqa għal dawk li ġenwinament ma jistgħux jieħdu l-vaċċin. Dan hekk kif qed jiffaċċjaw ħafna inċertezza kawża tar-regolamenti li jidħlu fis-seħħ fis-17 ta’ Jannar, anke minħabba li huwa diffiċli ħafna biex taqbad fuq il-helpline.

Is-sistema proposta għandha tkun riveduta u ssir aktar ġusta biex ma tgħabbix piż bla bżonn fuq iċ-ċittadini Maltin, speċjalment għal dawk li jridu jsiefru, kif qal ukoll l-Ajruport Internazzjonali ta’ Malta.

Il-Partit Nazzjonalista jtenni l-appell tiegħu għall-estensjoni tal-wage supplement f’setturi speċifiċi li qed ibatu l-iktar l-impatt tal-Pandemija, b’mod partikolari s-setturi tat-turiżmu u l-ospitalitá. Il-Partit Nazzjonalista jilqa’ d-dikjarazzjoni ta’ Robert Abela li din il-proposta qed tiġi kkunsidrata u jħeġġu biex ikun aktar speċifiku. Kif kien qal il-PN, id-deċiżjoni li l-wage supplement jiġi estiż sal-aħħar ta’ Jannar ħolqot aktar inċertezza għan-negozji.

Il-Partit Nazzjonalista jtenni wkoll l-appell tiegħu lill-gvern biex jillegalizza l-kits ta’ self-testing.

-----

The Nationalist Party supports the call by the Chamber of SMEs to further reduce quarantine periods to five days, given the weaker virulence of Omicron, the massive number of active cases and the tens of thousands of people in quarantine.

The current situation has a tremendous impact on the country's operations and economy, even though the government minimizes the issue.

PN also calls for a proper structure to be in place for those who genuinely cannot take the vaccine since they are facing lots of uncertainty ahead of January 17th, especially since helplines are almost impossible to get through.

The proposed system should also be reviewed to ensure it is fair and does not unnecessarily burden Maltese citizens, especially those travelling abroad, as highlighted by Malta International Airport.

The PN reiterates its call for a wage supplement extension to specific sectors struggling most with the drop in tourism and cancelled bookings. PN welcomes Robert Abela's statement that this proposal is being considered and urges him to be specific. As PN had said, the decision to extend the wage supplement until the end of January created more uncertainty for businesses.

PN also calls on the government to stop ignoring calls to legalize self-testing kits.
