Thank you for your concise and excellent suggestion. We certainly need to find a way of giving back to the teachers and healthcare workers who helped Malta survive Covid. As a parent, and the husband of a teacher, I know that Covid certainly taught many parents how difficult and important the role of teachers are in society.

Thanks for your suggestion Mark. This is a major problem especially in certain localities. We definitely need to create a sense of civic ownership and find why the system is failing us. The government does employ hundreds of people in this sector. My fear is that many of these are given as bogus jobs to win votes, not to seriously tackle this sector. Having said that, I know there are many employed workers who are dedicated to this cause and work day and night in difficult conditions to keep up. We need to empower them further and give them the resources they need. We also need to make sure the system stops being so fragmented across different entities who do not work together.

Thanks for contributing to this website. My position is clear: This party cannot afford to lose people. It must win people over. We will be fielding a vast array of candidates and we will leave it up to the electorate to decide who they want to keep and who they want to lose. The door is also open to new people who may wish to come forward.

Grazzi tas-suġġerimenti eċċellenti tiegħek. Se niżgura li dawk li jabbozzaw il-programm elettorali tagħna jaraw is-suġġerimenti. Naħseb ukoll li għandek tikkunsidra karriera fit-tfassil tal-politika. Il-bieb huwa miftuħ jekk trid tiddiskuti aktar l-ideat tiegħek.

commented on Cyber crime u it focusing on hate speech 2021-09-08 17:28:39 +0200
Thank you Mark. Malta already has a cybercrime unit and a unit to deal with hate speech and hate crime, however, if we have learnt anything about the police force in recent years it’s that it is perpetually under-resourced. Part of the problem is that the Labour government has committed so many crimes of their own that they have overloaded the police force while also having an interest in keeping the police under-resourced. But when it comes to hate speech and hate crime, I think we also need to think more holistically and get to the root of the problem. Why is there so much hate? Is it related to poor education? Failed policies? An environment that makes us all angry? Lack of peace of mind? Thanks again for your participation in this ongoing process.

This is a great suggestion. Both sport and physical activity have been neglected in our country for too long. Yes, we need to invest in our athletes to help them reach their aspirations and make Malta proud. But we also need to make sure our athletes are inspiring the rest of our population to be physically active. We need to build infrastructure that facilitates activity. This is one of the reasons we need more pedestrian zones, more trees, more outdoor gyms. But I would go a step further. We also need a specific focus on nutrition because that is another major cause of obesity which then leads to more inactivity. There is a long way to go and we need to engage more experts in this field. Thanks for coming forward and helping to start the change. If you want to meet up to discuss further, we will make ourselves available.

Thank you for your frankness Michael. Proving our commitment is essential. We also need to widen our team to engage more people in politics so that we all hold each other to account. On environmental issues, this is why we set up PN Greens, a team within PN to hold the party to account on environmental issues and to also make sure that we are making the necessary changes ourselves – not just preaching what should be done. I urge you to join this team by emailing [email protected]

Thank you for this suggestion. It has been passed on to the decision makers at Net TV and Net FM. A new schedule for both stations will start on September 29th and we will make sure we give these issues the necessary importance. But we must also make a point to widen the reach of our message beyond the party media. For too long we have been preaching to the converted. We need people of goodwill to spread this message across their own networks, including those who do not watch Net TV or listen to Net FM.

Thank you for your suggestion. This is a critical issue. We need to find smart ways of changing the way we move from place to place. The solution lies in multi modality: having a variety of different mobility options. But we cannot do this effectively if we keep doing everything in a car-centric way. The solution isn’t to widen every single road. The solution is to make it easier and cheaper for people to use car-pooling, shared transport, public transport, mass transit, and having safe paths for pedestrians, cyclists and those who use scooters. We also need to manage traffic hotspots better in creative ways. This needs a holistic plan, and we will be presenting one. Your suggestion could incentivise those who use their cars less frequently.

Grazzi tas-suġġeriment tiegħek. Naqbel li l-immaniġġjar tal-iskart għandu jingħata prijorità minħabba li s-sistema tagħna qed tfalli. Il-fondi tal-UE jistgħu jkunu kruċjali f’dan l-isforz u dalwaqt se nkunu qed inħabbru l-politika tagħna dwar din il-materja. Irridu wkoll ilkoll nagħmlu l-ftit tagħna biex ngħinu s-sistema u nagħmluha taħdem. Rigward l-ilma, għandna bżonn reviżjoni sħiħa tas-sistema tagħna: għandna nieqfu naħlu l-ilma tax-xita u rridu nieqfu nabbużaw l-akwiferi tagħna. U rridu nsibu sistemi li jippermettulna nagħmlu l-ilma tajjeb għax-xorb biex innaqqsu d-dipendenza tagħna fuq fliexken tal-plastik.

Thank you for this. It may seem like a simple suggestion but it is the basis of everything else. I believe the first step is to encourage more honest people to politics. Just because we have been let down by some of the politicians who the electorate trusted in 2013, does not mean that we should give up on politics or politicians. Thanks again for taking the first step.

Thank you Marc. All governments have tried to do this and the situation was improving steadily until Covid hit. We need to see how to bounce back. We also need to take this as an opportunity to do some critical things that we have often not had the courage to do in the past.
