  • 3 Pointers for the Electoral campaign to focus upon

Whilst many know how in the past detailed Electoral programmes were presented by the PN. Sometimes there were hundreds of valid proposals but unfortunately these were not marketed well enough to be understood and remembered by all. So PN should focus on 3 main pillars (apart from the other hundreds of proposals) and continuously mention these with priority – with special reference upon proposals which would generate higher income to citizens (ex: Reduction of Fuel prices // Reduction of W&E tariffs // Reduction of Income Tax – with priority continuously)

Nissuġerixxi wkoll li jsiru rampi għal wheelchairs għax hawn postijiet fejn f'bankini li hija twila triq sħiħa rampa waħda ssib u allura mir-rampa li tkun tlajt trid terġa tinżel, Il-bankini jkunu ta' livell Ewropew fejn taraw li ma jkunux jiżolqu fix-xita.

  • Acknowledge

Acknowledge the wrong doing in the past, and celebrate the good you did. Then look toward the future and promise to be the same in terms of some of the policies that government has pushed but be different in terms of corruption and impunity.

  • A clear message to one and all.

PN in government will mean exactly as what the photo illustrates. Let us now be logical. What choice does one have if not the interest of the future of the Maltese Islands and the future of our children.

  • A Holistic Approach to the Land Transport Issues

Everyone on the island is aware of the huge issues we face here in Malta with land transportation. Traffic is a regular issue throughout the day and air quality is off the charts (in a bad way). We need to look at how we can take a holistic approach to the issue and implemented the required changes for long-term gain. Widening of roads is a very short-sighted solution with massive repercussions for future thanks to the removal of agricultural land and trees, so we should stop this practice immediately. Instead, we should look at transparently conducting a study with seasoned experts on the subject in order to determine the correct way forward, taking into account both the economic and environmental benefits of the different suggestions. An example would be for a linked public transport system involving overground/underground trains with links to small-scale intra-region bus networks and ferry terminals. An proposal I had written about can be seen at http://www.ilpunt.com/2019/01/a-public-transport-proposal-for-maltese.html. This in-turn should also be coupled with other initiatives to encourage to use of these new public transport systems, such as - Increase in road tax for secondary vehicles - Decrease in road tax for light vehicles such as motorcycles (already implemented for 125cc vehicles which was a fantastic idea by the current administration) - Rewards scheme for people using public transport over and above any other form of private transportation (rebate on car insurance/road tax if proven usage of private vehicle is below 40% for example) - Better infrastructure for walking and cycling (which will be possible with less cars on the road). I'm sure there are many other initiatives that can be implemented but the above are just a few.

  • Air Malta

Rebuild Air Malta from the very bottom, Reduce or remove routes that are not sustainable and create new routes, also Air Malta should provide training to Maltese youths who are interested in becoming professional airline pilots and when they finish their training, they start working at Air Malta and the training expenses will be deducted from their wage on a certain period of time, this system has been in practice within other airlines across the globe for several years and it's sustainable.

  • Ambjent u l-Process Eletorali

Rigward l-Ambjent, ghandi dawn is-suggerimenti li jista jatwa gvern nazzjonalista gdid. A.) Alotments: Sfortunatament, aktar m'hu jghaddi z-zmien, aktar nies qed jigu kostretti jghixu fil-kwantita ta' apartamenti zghar li bnew u mhux f'residenzi b'xi gnejna maghhom. B'dana kollu, hawn hafna nies jixtiequ li ghandhom daqsxejn ta' gnejna fejn jghaddu zmien ikabbru ftit hxejjex u ma jistghux. Hawn hafna art tal-gvern mitluqa kemm fil-kampanja kif ukoll vicin xi rhula li jistghu jigu zvilupati f'ghelieqi zghar. Siti shah jistghu jigu mnadfa u mizjuda b'hamrija tajba. Dawn imbaghad jistghu jinqasmu f'ghelieqi zghar, bejn wiehed u iehor 4 metri b'6 metri, imdawrin b'fence b'stakes tal-injam kif hemm l-Ingilterra, jew b'hitan tas-sejjieh, jissejhu 'Alotments', fejn wiehed ikun jista jikri b'renta zghira kull sena minghand il-gvern ghal per ezempju kull 4 snin. Meta jkun hemm talba qawwija, dawn ghandhom jinghataw b'xi polza. Hekk hafna art mitluqa tigi msebha u fl-istess hin, jinghata sfogg lin-nies ghad-delizju ta' gnien li ma jistax ikollhom. Dawn is-siti ghandhom jigu immanigjati sew mill-gvern biex hadd ma jabbuza u jibdew telghin xi kmamar fihom b'mod abbuzziv. B) L-ilma Bahar. Din hija rizorsa li pajjizna huwa mdawwar biha bl-abundanza. Ezempju wiehed li nistghu nuzawh b'mod abbundanti huwa billi nuzawh flok ilma helu u tajjeb ghat-toilets taghna. Ghandhom jinghataw incentivi partikolarment lill-lukandi biex dawn ikollhom sistema li jintuza bahar flok ilma tajjeb ghat-toilets taghhom. Ma jaghmel l-ebda sens li intellew il-bahar, nipprocessawh bir-riverse osmosis li jiswa hafna flus, biex imbaghad nergghu narmuh fid-drenagg. Anzi nissuggerixxi li anke bini gdid u anke djar ezistenti ghandhom ikollhom l-istess facilita'. Veru li l-investiment inizjali jiswa l-flus imma, in the long term, zgur li l-pajjiz jigwadanja hafna billi nibzghu ghall-ilma helu u prezzjuz. C) Energy Harvesting Walkways. Ftit taz-zmien ilu, kont qed naqra artiklu interessanti fuq l-energija nadifa fejn giet zviluppata teknologija fejn fi bliet kbar u fejn jimxu hafna nies, qed jigu nstallati bhal speci ta' madum ma l-art fejn meta wiehed jirfsu, jiggenera energija bid-daqqa tal-pass u din qed tigi uzata biex jinxtelu d-dwal. Sar progett simili gewwa Heathrow. Immaginaw li kieku hawn Malta, naghmlu xi haga simili fid-dahla tal-Belt Kapitali taghna fejn jidhlu eluf ta' nies kuljum u noholqu l-energija b'kull pass ta' sieq li jghaddu minn hemm kuljum. D) Il-Process Eletorali. Hawnhekk nixtieq naghmel appell lit-tmexxija tal-partit fejn jidhol il-process eletorali u biex joqghodu b'sebgha ghajnejn ghal corrupt practices li jistghu isiru waqt l-elezzjoni. Fl-elezjoni li ghaddiet, kien nstemmghu hafna kazi fejn rekord qawwi ta' nies li marru jivvutaw qalu li ma jafux jaqraw u jiktbu. Din ix-xniegha kont insejtha, imma proprju il-gimgha l-ohra f'programm fuq ir-radju tal-partit, ftit qabel is-6.00pm, cemplet mara fejn jekk m'iniex nizbalja kien hemm Dr. Perici Calascione, fejn din irrakuntat kaz fejn din meta marret tivvota sabet il-bieb tal-kamra maghluq ghax kien hemm xi hadd li ma jafx jikteb. Skond din il-mara, meta nfetah il-bieb, ohrog il-ghageb, tohrog mara li kienet taf u li din kienet ghalliema. Dan zgur huwa abbuz serju u korrott. Ovjament, jekk il-partit fil-gvern iwieghed li jtik 'job', xi pjecir iehor jew xi 'fridge' (Ghax dawn l-affarijiet issemmghu) dawn biex iserhu rashom li serqulek il-vot, ser igeghlu l'dak li jkun jghid li ma jafx jikteb biex l-ufficjal tal-partit li jkun fil-kamra jkun zgur li l-vot mar ghand il-labour. Fic-cirkostanzi il-PN ghandu jaghti struzjonijiet lill-agenti tieghu li jkunu prezenti ukoll fil-kamra biex jiehdu nota ta' min jghid li ma jafx jikteb u jaqra u jindaga wara jekk hux veru jew le. Anzi nghid li l-PN din il-kwistjoni ghandu jaghmilha pubblika minn qabel biex min behsiebu jipprova jaghmel xi mahmugata bhal din jahsibha darbtejn ghax jaf li ser ikun moniterjat. Nittama li kont ta' ftit ghajnuna.

  • A Minister for Healthy Lifestyles and Sport

I know this might appear as a frivolous idea or that it might resemble Julia Farrugia Portelli's portfolio, but from what I am seeing as a person involved in Physical Activity and Sport, nothing is being done to encourage healthy lifestyles. I truly appreciated the press conference related to the fight against obesity, but the obesity discourse is not a standalone aim. I am not going to stay listing all the benefits here, but I think that it is about time that Physical Activity and Sport are treated in a separate way by the government. The current government's main focus for sport is just winning medals. This can be just one way forward - investment in facilities, investment in athletes, more weight to Sport Malta. Fully agree. But we can't stop there. The majority of the population are not athletes. We must seriously instil in our population the love for being active. We must start this from amongst school children. Physical Education and Physical Activity in schools must be taken seriously. I have been teaching PE for the last 20 years, and what we discussed in 2001, we are still discussing it now. Nothing, absolutely nothing has changed. There are simple (yes, very simple) changes that can be implemented and that can be the start for a way forward. But the right people need to be consulted. We cannot develop policies for PE in schools by discussing with coaches, administrators, politicians. We must involve in these discussions the PE teachers, the Institute for PE and Sport at University and the Sports Department at MCAST. There are people who have a multitude of knowledge, who have studied and researched all this, but all their precious work is falling on deaf ears because the policy makers' main aim is winning a medal at the Olympic Games. I believe in treating the two areas (i.e. Sport and Physical Activity) separately. Even a simple dictionary definition separates them. I truly believe the PN should suggest once again the idea of having a Minister of Sport and Healthy Lifestyle (or Minister for Physical Activity). A Minister, not only a Parliamentary Secretary. This is an issue which needs to be taken seriously, which needs to be fought deeply. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to express ourselves.

  • A more comfortable environment for students

What if students around Malta & Gozo study in a much comfortable and reliable environment. I'd suggest adding airconditions in the schools/colleges/university that don't have access to airconditions.

  • A new Agency for Planning and Designing the Public Realm

Take a proactive approach to planning and designing the public realm (i.e. pavements, pedestrian links, public buildings, public spaces, gardens, the shore, etc.) rather than allowing the public realm become an after-thought and a left-over space after private development is planned and built. Local Councils' participation in such an agency would encourage Councils to think holistically about their respective localities, improving the present capsular, sporadic and often wasteful plans for their slice of the public realm (in spite of any good intentions they may have).

  • Area for conservation / public use

In today's article by Lovin Malta, it said: "Cutajar said the PN was asking the public to get in touch and point out spaces that could potentially be converted into green areas. " There is a large green area in the center of Mosta on the market and I think it's important to have this land protected to avoid replacing a mature garden with concrete. It's also a great opportunity to have a large public garden in the center of a major town. This land consists of a villa measuring approx 311sqm and a garden measuring approx 6800sqm and is currently on the market for 6.8M (raised from approx 5M around a year ago) This land is situated behind the popular Mellows Cafe' in Mosta. https://www.google.com/maps/place/35%C2%B054'34.4%22N+14%C2%B025'27.8%22E/@35.9095461,14.4244471,95m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d35.9095466!4d14.4243909 https://www.propertymarket.com.mt/view/plot-for-sale-mosta-4122532301898548870/
